Also, it is “next month�… I found natracare all-organic cotton, super plus tampons at my health food store, $7.79 for twenty. Got them online at organicpharmacy/Natracare.org for $4.47 for twenty with reasonable and fast shipping. They are the European Union’s highest absorbency. They look like an o.b. Super Plus. But I think they are a better product than the o.b., because of the higher cotton absorbency—maybe as good as the o.b. Ultra. So far I’m managing without my o.b. Ultras. (My Keeper Moon Cup—comparable to the Diva Cup—did not impress for heavy days.) February 17, 2011Dear New York Times Editor,I am not ashamed. I surprise myself to say that and surprise myself to write to you about an intimate subject. There is a small bctooyt of Johnson and Johnson going on, a girl-cott. Its rallying cry is, “We Want Our o.b. ULTRA Tampons Back!� So, why isn’t this just an embarrassing consumer complaint? And why would I write the New York Times?The first person to teach me about my period was my mom. My mom is a 75-year-old feminist. When I was ten, she was mostly concerned with me not thinking my period was a bad thing. Until I started using tampons, I thought having a period created some real limitations. Tampons meant I could run and play. I got to do what I wanted. And in the mid 1970’s they were innovating with tampons.When o.b. tampons came on the market, I was happy. They were great. They were the best. They were small to carry. They worked. And when I got o.b. Ultra tampons: they worked THE BEST. That was freedom to participate.I’m 46. I never had to feel bad about having my period. Having the product that worked meant I didn’t get left out once a month. Ask your grandma or your mom if she lived in a time when she could say the same.Women participate. We win World Cup soccer, run Marathons, play overtime in basketball games. We sit in on the board meeting, worship at church or preach the sermon. We go to the prom and the movies. We work where there’s no bathroom break. We run and play. The products we use are our personal business, but it’s a public biology. A menstrual cycle isn’t a bad thing. Johnson and Johnson discontinuing o.b. Ultra tampons is a bad thing. At the bctooyt website, , we are encouraged to sign a petition and call the company at 1-877-454-7843. We are also encouraged to bctooyt all Johnson and Johnson products (including any other size o.b. tampon) until the company brings the product back. I encourage men to go ahead and sign on and call to support us, too.Why is my opportunity to participate subject to a “business decision� about Johnson and Johnson’s projected profitability?
